WHEN TO VISIT

Rich nature, old traditions and archeological findings contribute to make the Mount Majella territories a perfect place for excursions and trips. The Majella National Park offers its visitors a scenery of extraordinary beauty in every season:

late in Spring flowers and trees blossom - this is the best time of the year, together with Autumn, to visit ancient villages and hermitages. Summer is the best season to walk along the paths. October is enchanting with its multicolored beech woods and it preludes to winter and its suggestive snow-covered landscapes.

SELF-CATERING COTTAGE

On the same street as the Antico Borgo B&B, and right in the middle of the charming old town, Casa Travi is a house with its roots from the 17th century. After renovation in 2007 the house still keep its traditional Italian charm with white walls and wooden beams visible in the ceilings. Visible parts of the house’s stone walls act as natural décor, and the kitchen has a vaulted ceiling with lovely details! Inside the front door you are greeted by a small ledge with space for coats, and then you will take the stairs up to a spacious living room.

The living room consists of a lounge area and a dining area, and from here a vault leads the way to the kitchen and a staircase will take you to the second floors. From the kitchen
there is a door to the secluded terrace. The terrace is a spacious area of 25 sq m. On the second floor there are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Sleeps 5.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

There are plenty of non-walking activities to do in the area. The local town of Caramanico Terme has shops, an outdoor swimming pool, horse riding, rock climbing school and:

OTTER BREEDING Centre - Caramanico Terme
Otters live in the upper reaches of the Orfento and Orta rivers. To help with a repopulation program this Reserve has been created on the slopes below the Visitors Centre. Guided Tours are organised during the Summer, taking place in the late evening when otters are at their most active. Numbers are limited and tours book up quickly, so if you are interested, talk to your Local Manager early in your stay.

THE WOLF Sanctuary - Popoli
Wolves are being bred in a large enclosure on the Western flanks of Monte Morrone. The project can be visited, and the wolves seen in their habitat, but only in the context of an extended guided tour in Italian (total of 3 1/2 hours) which includes visit to all the animal enclosures. The sanctuary is about an hour's drive from Caramanico. Speak to our Local Manager for more information/booking.
